Module 3: [Observational Writing]

Welcome to Module 3

Hello everyone--welcome to Module 3!

This week you will be completing some readings about description; see how Backman and Dillard both effectively describe their very different environments and what we learn about the observers from those insights.

Next, you will be reading the Openings Scenes with NO TITLES; these are three openings scenes from different movies/tv shows. With just reading them, you'll probably be confused by some of what is going on! That's okay, and actually the point--examine what you can figure out from the dialogue and limited scene description first, and then see how much more you can figure out when you WATCH the scenes (YouTube links all in the Openings Scenes WITH TITLES document).

Finally, you will be choosing a movie/tv scene of your own to describe. This 'scene' is even shorter for you: you are only describing everything you can see in one frame [a single shot, what you see when you pause it at one moment]. This one frame can be any movie or tv show you like--as action-packed or beautiful or distorted as you wish, as long as it's something you can describe in detail!

Have a wonderful week and feel free to reach out with any questions,
Professor Gaboury
