Module 5: [Observational Essay Final]

Welcome to Module 5

Hello everyone--welcome to Module 5!

This week will be important for time management, as you will be peer editing a classmate's work in addition to revising/rewriting your own draft for your Observation Location writing.

First, you will be sending your draft to your assigned classmate. I will send you the name of your classmate and you will exchange drafts via an email thread that I will be on as well--this is a rare situation where "Reply All" is beneficial, so your classmate and I will be able to see your exchanges.

After you have read your classmate's draft, you will be completing a Peer Editing Sheet. This is your way of providing thoughtful feedback to your partner, and proving your ability to carefully read and provide suggestions to your classmate. I do not expect you to 'catch' every error, but I do expect you to honestly try to help your partner improve in his or her writing. Remember, the goal is constructive criticism: we ALL have strengths in our writing, and we ALL have ways we can improve! Providing specific, intentional, helpful feedback is incredibly helpful in the writing process. Once you have completed the Peer Edit Sheet, Reply All to the email thread so that I and your partner can see it.

Finally, you will be revising/rewriting your own final draft of your Observation Location. The rubric is included, and should be 2-2.5 pages. Do you have to accept every suggestion your partner gives you, or that I give you? Absolutely not--it's your writing, your partner could be incorrect or misunderstand something, etc. but make sure to consider the recommendations before you complete your final draft.

Have a wonderful week and feel free to reach out with any questions,
Professor Gaboury
