Module-level Objectives

As a result of the instruction in this module, students will be able to:

Describe leukopoiesis and the primary purpose of WBC.

List the maturation sequence of the granulocyte series

Name four morphological features that are helpful in differentiating the cells of the granulocyte series

Define the major CD markers for each leukocyte

Describe the features that differentiate the granules of the neutrophilic, eosinophilic, and basophilic cell lines.

Define the function of the myeloid stem cell relative to the lymphoid stem cell.

Characterize the difference between absolute and relative values

Describe the lymphatic system and its relationship to lymphocyte production.

Describe the role of T, B and natural killer (NK)cells.
