Live Captions in Google Chrome

About Live Captions

The live caption option in Google Chrome allows you to turn on live captions for any playable media/video within or outside this course. To activate live captions, do the following:

  • On your computer, open the Google Chrome browser.
  • At the top, click the More button (three vertical dots), then Settings.
  • At the bottom of the Settings page, click Advanced, then Accessibility, then Captions.
  • Turn on Live Captions.

Tips:

  • To turn on live captions when you play a video, click the Media Control button at the top.
  • To use live captions on videos that autoplay, turn on the video volume.
  • When you click away for the tab with sound, live captions will appear in the video popup box, which you can also drag around your computer screen.

Customize Your Live Captions

To customize your live captions to make them easier to read, you can:

  • Collapse and expand the live caption area with the arrow on the caption box.
  • Move the live caption area to your preferred place in browser window.
  • Change the text font, size, color, and opacity. (Caption text can be customized by going to More > Settings > Advanced > Accessibility > Captions.)
