Chapter 15

Identify normal newborn vital signs. (CO: 1a,b).

Differentiate between cephalohematoma and caput succedaneum.(CO: 1a,f,m).
Identify normal newborn reflexes.(CO: 1a,f).
Discuss nursing care of the newborn. & screenings.(CO: 1a,i,m).
Develop a discharge teaching plan on newborn care(CO: 1a,d,f,i,m).

Chapter 16

Discuss infant nutritional needs.(CO: 1a,i,m).
Describe the process of human milk production, stages of milk production, advantages and disadvantages of breastfeeding.(CO: 1a,c,i,m).
Identify cues of infant readiness to nurse.(CO: 1a,f,i,m).
Discuss common breastfeeding problems and management(CO: 1a,i,m).
Teach bottle feeding parents how to prepare formula, safety issues.(CO: 1a,i,j,m).

Chapter 18

Describe the unique needs of the newborn and infant compared to older children /bonding /communication/development(CO: 1a,c,i,m).
Differentiate various schedules, infectious diseases, and care required for infants undergoing immunizations(CO: 1a,i,k,m).
Discuss the interventions that can assist a caregiver who is caring for an infant experiencing colic.(CO: 1a,i,m).
Understand the importance of discussing safety issues for infants with parents, including maintaining a clear airway(CO: 1a,e,j).

Chapter 19

Describe the unique needs of the toddler as compared with older children in relation to safety, bonding, communication, and development.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Describe the needs toddlers have for stimulation, play and sleep to promote growth and development.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Describe psychosocial development of the toddler in relation to social engagement, temperament, stranger anxiety, separation anxiety and moral development.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Analyze the importance of discipline for the toddler and how anticipatory guidance can be used.(CO: 1a,b,g,i,m).

Chapter 21

Describe the unique needs of the school-aged child in relation to safety, socialization, and communication.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Compare the nutritional needs and eating patterns of the school-aged child.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Contrast the play and sleep patterns of the school-aged child in relation to the other developmental stages.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Discuss the issue of safety for the school-aged child, including education about safety equipment for organized sports, bike riding, skateboarding, and roller skating.(CO: 1a,b,d,i,m).
Describe the teaching needs of entire family of a school-aged child in relation to prevention of child abduction, sexual abuse, bullying, and other forms of violence.(CO: 1a,b,d,i,m).
Define the effects of bullying, including cyberbullying, on a school-aged child’s emotional health and well-being.(CO: 1a,b,d,i,m).

Chapter 22

Describe the unique needs of the adolescent in relation to children in other developmental stages and age groups.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Differentiate the physical growth and development of the adolescent period in comparison with the earlier developmental stages.(CO: 1a,b).
Describe abstract thinking in the adolescent period and its effect on the teen’s view of his or her world.(CO: 1a,b).
Compare the nutritional needs and eating patterns of the adolescent to the behaviors of the earlier developmental stages.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Contrast the recreation, play needs, and socialization practices of the adolescent to the earlier developmental stages.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Teach the adolescent and the family of an adolescent anticipatory guidance practices to reduce injury and accidents.(CO: 1a,b,i,m).
Analyze the relationship between suicide and depression as it relates to the developmental stage of adolescence. Integrate aspects of safety in relation to rapid assessments and interventions for adolescent depression to prevent suicide ideation, gestures, and attempts. Sexuality(CO: 1a,b,i,g,m).
