Please post here your initial thoughts about your participation in this course. What are your goals? What are your talents? What are your fears? What is your experience with public speaking? Which speakers do you admire? How do you fit into your family or extended family in terms of speaking with other people, speaking in groups? Are you the shy one or the proactive one? Are you a quiet networker, a loud announcer, a thoughtful deliberator? What is the relationship of your thinking style and your speaking style? Do you speak differently when you are with particular people or groups or in various situations? Where did your speaking ability develop (or not) in your life experience and life course, in your family, in society, in various roles you were in (work, school, etc.)?
Browse around in "The Speaker's Handbook" (if you have access to it already; if not, don't worry, please respond to my questions, or with any thoughts you have)...
Please post your responses here, both in text and in audio/video recordings. Please make your video or audio recordings in Canvas Studio. Learn how to use Studio with the help of the tutorials from Canvas, the QC Canvas "Hub," or the Canvas Student Help Chat/Phone (available from the "tree ring" icon at the bottom left of your screen). There is a Module near the top of your Modules with tutorials from both QC staff and YouTube showing you how to create these videos in Canvas Studio, and how to import them into Discussions, here. You can also make videos on your phone and import them into Canvas Studio, and please request CC and enable Comments before you import them into Discussions. I believe you may be able to make video directly on your phone from the Canvas phone app. If you don't have that, please get it. To activate it with your QC login, you can go to your Canvas Account on the upper left of your screen, and you will see, near the bottom of the menu after you click on Account, a QR code. You can point your phone at that and it should activate your Canvas Student phone app login.
However, there is so much to learn and do in MindTap, if you get access, the first assignment is to become familiar with the functionality of MindTap, and to browse the content of The Speaker's Handbook (eBook, or paper book, if anyone got that), and to make notes (you can do that electronically in the eBook in MindTap), and I will create another Discussion for people to post on what you find interesting, what you want to most work on, what is confusing, etc., about the content... What do you think about that?
